Place Pick
Overview
Place Pick is a quick way to place an existing component into the active assembly by selecting an occurrence in the graphics window. Use it when the component you want is already in the assembly somewhere and you simply want to place another occurrence of the same file.
Unlike Add and Add Pick, Place Pick does not create any new files and does not rename anything. It places the selected component’s existing document file path into the active edit document.
Usage Instructions
- Click Place Pick in the Create suite.
- When prompted, select the component you want to place (an existing occurrence in the assembly).
- When placement begins, click in the graphics window to position the new occurrence.
- Finish placement and apply constraints as needed.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing places after selecting a component. Placement is interactive; if placement was canceled, rerun the command.
- I expected a new file copy but got another occurrence. Use Add or Add Pick when you need a uniquely named copy instead of another instance.
- Wrong file placed. Rerun Place Pick and select the correct occurrence.
Examples
Place another instance of an existing part
Select a bracket that is already in the assembly; Place Pick starts placement for the same part file so you can add an additional occurrence.
Reuse a subassembly
Select a placed subassembly occurrence; Place Pick places another instance of that subassembly file into the active assembly.
